In Memory of Billet 1997- 2011

Billet was humanly put to rest March 3 after a long illness from which he could not recover. Billet was rescued in 2007 and was adopted by Jenn Grundon and her family. Billet was gelded, and trained under saddle. When adopted he was a 10 year old Arabian Stallion who had not been handled. He was a body score of 2 when he came to Whispering Oaks. He turned into a beautiful horse with care and feeding. He became ill in 2008 and recovered to ride again and show. He became ill again in 2010 and this time couldn't recover even with the best known cures and Veterinary care. Thanks go to Dr. Emily Weaver and the reserch and time she took to try to learn about Billet's rare condition. Billet was loved and cared for by Jenn Grundon his owner, right till the end. Bill, may you forever be a "Drinker of the Wind."

Whispering Oaks All Breed Schooling show was a big success. 35 Horses and 125 entries. A great time was had by all. The show was a good way for Lesson Students to see how well they were riding. Each Rider recieved input on what they should work on from the Judge Miss Brittnay Hawkins. Exhibitors who rode their own horses also were critiqued on there horses performance and what would make it better. Here are a few photos of the event.

Madye and VJ are back to riding bareback and VJ seems to getting back to normal after a serious colic last week. VJ made a miraculous recovery around 5:30 AM in the morning after a vigil of VJ fan awaited outside of her stall area. Madye stayed all night as did Janice and Jenn. Hopefully back to Barrels soon. VJ and Madye have a story which is supposed to be published in the Morgan HOrse next month.

Happier times for Ashton Gamso whos horse Romeo was down with a serious colic that sent him to surgicare in Brandon. Procedures were done to correct the the problem and Romeo made a recovery. Still on stall rest he seemed glad to be home.

Sad news. Ariel lost her foal May 25. The baby was 3 week early and came without warning. A big loss and huge dissapointment. Waiting for test results on the placenta and if all is well and Ariel heals properly we may try again. So Sad.

Whispering Oaks Rescue horse Susy is doing well and gaining weight. Susy is great with kids and as she gets stronger we have let a few of our lesson students ride her.
We can see now by her gaits she is a Missouri Fox Trotter. As a FYI Susy is fed Sr. Feed and lots of hay. She has alread gained over 25lbs. Thanks to all that have donated feed.

Whispering Oaks is getting Ready for Citrus Cup April 12 - 17. With the many Opportunity classes including a Open Dressage, Park, Academy, and Hunter we have more horses able to attend. Whispering Oaks has a new rescue project. The newest addition is Susy a Palamino Missouri Fox Trotter. Susy will be cared for by the children and staff at Whispering Oaks and when healthy used in the Summer Horsemanship Program or rehomed. Susy seems to love the children. Pictures soon. Thanks for all the donation of feed and suppliments. Donors are the Ritz family, Stacy family,and Karen Farnell and June Dillashaw.

FCF Protege' dies!

The great gelding FCF Protege' died after a brief illness at the Surgicare Veterinarian Hospital in Brandon Fl. Protege' was owned by Cassie Bell of Odessa Fl. and shown by her in Pleasure and Equitation for a number of years. Protege' placed in the Top 10 in all his Equitation classes at the Morgan Grand Nationals this year and was Res World Champion with Cassie in the Walk Trot Equitation in 2005. Protege' was 16. He was stabled at Whispering Oaks and trained by Jenn Scotto.

Janice King Forbes

Janice King Forbes passed away peacefully at 77 years, after a brief illness on November 19,2009 at the Oconee Medical Center, Salem, S.C. She leaves behind Husband Frank Forbes, Son Frank Forbes of Douglas Mass, Daughters Janice Forbes Scotto of Tampa, Fl. and Jennifer Forbes of Boston, Mass. Grand Children William Klee, Alex Forbes Stevens, Sumner Forbes, Jennifer Scotto and Jesse Scotto. She also leaves 7 Great Grandchildren.
Janice was a Morgan lover having a Morgan named Prince when she was a child. She was active in the Conn. Appaloosa Assoc.and could be seen helping her daughters Janice and Jennifer at most of the Horse Shows were they were competing. Horse Show brownies were one of her specialties. She was a crusader for Animals and was instrumental in founding the Friends Of Animals no kill shelter in Clemson, S.C. Janice was also a fabulous vocalist singing in her church Choirs, Choral Groups, and small musicals. Janice will be missed by all who knew her.

We specailize in Saddle Seat Equitations but Train English Pleasure, Park, Western Pleasure, Hunter, Western and Hunt Seat Equitation,Driving and Barrel Racing.
